Oh goodness has it been a while!
I know I've been neglecting this and need to be more on top of things. I've decided for 2015 my goals are going to be 3 blog posts a month and 3 Instagram (@runawaystitches) posts a week. January will be a bit of an exception because I was traveling for about the first half of the month, so I'm targeting 2 posts this month. I tend to be a numbers based person and I feel that having quantifiable goals will help keep me on track.
I have plenty of work on hooks and needles to share. As part of my participation in the Harry Potter Knit/Crochet House Cup (HPKCHC) on Ravelry, I'm doing an Advanced Studies challenge called an OWL, or Ordinary Wizard Level. This is a 3 month challenge based on a prompt from a Hogwarts class. This term, January through March, I'm doing an OWL in Defense Against the Dark Arts. For this OWL I had to declare my horcruxes, 5 items that make me invincible. Here they are...
I'm making a shawl for my Mom. After all, who better to keep a piece of your soul! I'm making the Trillian by Martina Behm. I'm working it out of Neighborhood Fiber Company's Capital Luxury Sock in the Lauraville color way. It's a grey-ish purple color. It's coming along, but I only have a swatch photo so far.
These will be the Scylla socks made from Skein Top Draw sock in the Fig colorway. This was my first experience working with Skein yarn. Granted I haven't started the whole project yet, but making the swatch was heavenly. The yarn is so incredibly soft! Side note: I don't normally swatch for socks, but it's a requirement of an OWL.
I'm a bit spoiled and have Neighborhood Fiber Company as a fairly local dyer near me. Which means that my LYS was able to bring them in for a trunk show. At the show they had the Mayura mitts and cowl there. It has a stylized peacock pattern done in color work. The sample was done in the normal peacock colors, but they also had an alternative color kit available. I already had lots of blues, so I opted to go outside my normal box and go with the alternative color. I can't wait to see it come together. These will be made from Studio Sport in 4 different color ways.
The Loop shawl will be my final horcrux. This pattern has been so popular lately and I couldn't resist making one. Plus my LYS had just received a new shipment of Western Sky Knits and I was in love with the variegated. I don't have a ton of green in my wardrobe and decided to once again venture outside of my comfort box and knit with green. The green is Bahh! La Jolla in the Thyme color way and the contrast is Western Sky Knits Aspen Sock in an unnamed colorway.
Thank you for your patience and stay tuned for updates on these projects, and may others, in the coming months!
